Your privacy, clearly explained

1Location and GPS

With your permission, Nautical Almanac accesses your device’s location to provide GPS View, live Sky View, and calculations based on your position.

These features use coordinates and the time supplied with location updates to calculate celestial positions and magnetic variation on your device. The app’s GPS calculation code does not send your coordinates to our DeltaT server.

Live location updates operate while the relevant screen is active and the feature is enabled. You can turn off live GPS in the app or revoke location permission in your device settings. You can also enter a position manually for calculations that support manual input.

2Information stored on your device

The app saves settings and calculation inputs locally, including selected positions, dates, times, celestial objects, and compass headings where applicable.

You can remove locally stored app data through Android’s app settings. Android’s backup and restore features may also include app data, depending on your device settings and backup provider.

3Online DeltaT updates

When you request an online DeltaT update, the app connects to our server to download astronomical timing data. Your calculation coordinates are not included in these requests.

The server necessarily receives connection information, including an IP address, to respond to a request. We do not retain server access logs or use these connections to track users.

4Purchases and subscriptions

Purchases and subscriptions are processed through Google Play. The app uses purchase information supplied by Google Play to determine whether paid features are available.

We do not receive or store your payment-card details. Google handles payment information under its own privacy policy.

The Google Play Billing library also sends diagnostic information to Google. During testing, this included app and library versions, device and operating-system information, and Billing connection or error information.

5Advertising and marketing

Nautical Almanac does not display advertisements. We do not sell your personal information or use your GPS coordinates for advertising.

6Contacting the developer

If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and the information you choose to include. We use this information to respond to your enquiry and provide support.

Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.

7Retention and deletion

Locally saved information remains on your device until it is changed, cleared, or removed through Android’s app controls. Copies included in device backups are managed through your backup provider.

We retain support correspondence only for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any related support matters. You can request deletion of correspondence by contacting us.

Google manages the retention and deletion of information it processes under its own policies. Uninstalling Nautical Almanac does not cancel a Google Play subscription; subscriptions must be managed through Google Play.

8Security

We take reasonable measures to protect information handled by the app. However, no method of electronic storage or internet communication can guarantee complete security.

9Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app or its data practices change. We will update the date above and provide an in-app notice where appropriate for significant changes.
